Roly Poly weekend

This girl took a lot of photos. But I didn't. So you're stuck with the few crappy ones I took.

It was the Julie weekend. And we spent most of the 2.5 days waddling from one eating establishment to another. Let me detail it for you:

Friday
-Chichen Itza (Mo-Chica was closed for dinner prep. Poo). Along with entrees, Julie and I split a tamale. It was decent, but I didn't like that the masa was extra smooth, custard-like. Is this just the restaurant's style or Yucatan style?

-Pupusas at Rincon Salvadoreno the Sunset Junction. My first, certainly won't be my last. The accompanying slaw tasted just like kimchi! Totally unexpected!

-Delicious amazing food by Jared Food at the Home Ec grand opening party. The strawberry-sunflower pesto phyllo pouched and the green bean casserole were the best! It was all vegetarian, but I thought the casserole had grilled chicken in it. The texture, the flavor, everything. But Jared said it was just mushroom with basil and Parmesan... and whatever magic he works on food.

-We smartly let go of the idea of post-party gelato at Pazzo's.

Saturday
-Galco's for Sweet Blossom sodas: Jules at the Mr. Q. Cucumber and me the elderflower soda. Definitely a favorite!
The rose soda is pretty delicious too.

-Took our sodas over to King Taco for tamales as I know and love. Julie never had a real tamale even though she went to USC!!! I had to pretend that she didn't actually spend FOUR YEARS in LA, because agh... let's not get into it. It's upsetting.

-Dinner at Good Girl's with Julie's South Carolina friends. We all split fries (of course), grandpa's porridge, galangal chicken sandwich and chicken curry pot pie. Solid, per usual.

And for dessert, we had the chocolate joe and a bread pudding, which they must've just pulled out of the oven, because there was a wonderful light crispiness on the outside of the pudding!

Sunday
-Because we hate ourselves... the next day we went to The Hat. Even if we split ONE order of onion rings and a pastrami sandwich, it would've been too much for us... but we both ordered one set of rings and sandwich each.

-And then for dinner, we polished off an order of buffalo wings and muffins at The Kettle. Oh yeah and a few celery sticks and a pile of broccoli between us to make up for everything else. Clearly.
I'm sure we were disgusting to watch eat.

I now understand why maybe some people go on those crazy detox diets. This might be a good time for me to go on one, because I don't miss food. And probably won't miss it for the next month or so.

Actually, non-Julie ami and I went to Golden Deli in Alhambra the next day for lunch for amazing Vietnamese food... but that has a lot of much-needed fiber, so it doesn't count.

And then we looked at peacocks walking around the L.A. Arboretum parking lot.
And a peahen and a peachick.
Oh god... Olan just let me know she's NOW planning her LA trip. I don't know if I can handle a second eating frenzy.
