Color in Death Valley

There will probably more posts about my trip to Death Valley during my week off a while back. It was my first time there and I am absolutely in love with it. I'm hoping to squeeze in a trip between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

That name really does the park a disservice, especially because only ONE person died in the group that gave the park its name. But then again, I get really protective of places I really like, so I'm glad the name is such a turn-off for people.

Death Valley
Death Valley is a lot of desert, but it's also a whole lot of mountains and flatlands too. Sure, the desert is a lot of nothing (which is its own special kind of beauty), but go up just a thousand feet up in elevation and you start to see a little life.

How cool is this flower? The blossoms split like amoebas.

I realized on this trip that my replacement camera is pretty crappy. So I didn't take a lot of photos. But up in the flatlands, you'll find a lot of abandoned mines and the remnants of the towns that used to be there (a lot of rusty cans and frames). I wouldn't say it feels like romance or an eerieness, but I love that you find these hints of human existence, particularly in the flatlands.
